July release for AWS Database Migration Service: Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL as target and IBM Db2 z/OS support as source

AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) helps us migrate our customers’ databases to AWS quickly and securely. The source database remains fully operational during migration, minimising downtime for database-dependent applications.

In addition, with AWS Database Migration Service we can migrate data to and from the most widely used commercial and open source databases.

AWS Database Migration Service supports homogeneous migrations, such as from Oracle to Oracle, as well as heterogeneous migrations between different database platforms, such as from Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon Aurora.

With AWS Database Migration Service, we can also replicate data continuously and with low latency from any supported source to any supported destination. For example, we can replicate from multiple sources to Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to create a highly available and scalable data lake solution. We can also consolidate databases into a petabyte-scale data warehouse by streaming data to Amazon Redshift.

AWS Database Migration Service now supports IBM Db2 z/OS as a source

AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) now supports IBM Db2 z/OS as a source for the full load operational mode. Using AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), we can convert schemas and code objects from IBM DB2 z/OS to Aurora MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL targets. Once we have the schema and objects in a format compatible with target database we can utilize AWS DMS to migrate data from IBM DB2 running on the z/OS operating system to any AWS DMS supported targets.

AWS Database Migration Service now supports Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL as a target

AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) has expanded functionality by adding support Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL as a target. Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL is a new translation layer for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition that enables Aurora to understand commands from applications written for Microsoft SQL Server. Using AWS DMS, we can now perform full load migrations to Babelfish for Aurora PostgreSQL with minimal downtime.

Benefits

Simple to use – Minimal downtime – Supports widely used databases       Low cost – On-going replication – Reliable
